Welcome to our website. My name is Heather Kerner
and I have been making felt for about 7 years. This primitive technique
of shrinking wool fiber to make garments and sculpture has captured my
attention and passion! I have specialized in making woolen vessels for
finer galleries and craft shows throughout the United States. You can
finally see a pattern outlining my technique in Carol Cypher’s
new book entitled “How We Felt” (Interweave Press). I
am recently exploring the richness of felt to make functional handbags,
sculptural hats, and bird forms, in addition to my signature vessels
with coiled wire rimming!
You can see my unique baskets and other work on display in finer galleries
throughout New England, at my home-town gallery in Skowhegan, and find
us at the New York Sheep and Wool Festival booth 22D each year.
I will be finally making it my goal to honor your desires for unique
felt-making workshops. If you are interested in a customized felt-making
workshop for your fiber group here in Central Maine, it is a beautiful
place for a creative retreat., with Lake George within walking distance
of our rural farm, or skiing at Rangeley and Sugarloaf. Or,
if you have a small group or event for which you would like to design
a workshop, I would be happy to work with you.
Co-founder of the River Roads Artisans Gallery in Skowhegan, Maine,
we have succeeded in expanding our retail gallery into an old farmhouse
that includes the work of more than 35 fine artisans! Make us a
destination on your travels through the Northeast, and you will be delighted
by the visual feast of fine craft! You’ll find directions
to the new retail gallery soon on this website, and on the Maine Fiberarts
TourMap 2009…
Feel free to contact me at the address above or by using the contact form located on this website.
Warm regards,
Heather
